Bolt athlete weight lossLet me ask you an important question about your weight loss workouts…do you train like an athlete?

Even if you have no desire to play sports at any level…you should be training explosively (like an athlete) to achieve a better body.

Ladies, how many pro volleyball players do you see with love handles?  And guys, when is the last time you looked at a safety in the NFL and thought…what a sloppy looking dude…I’m glad I don’t look like that?

Just because we don’t play sports doesn’t mean we don’t want to LOOK like these athletes…so why not learn from them?  Would it kill us to train with a high intensity using non-traditional types of exercises?

Here’s a quick video that shows you how to do one of my favorite exercises…the squat jump.  Here, I’m doing the squat jump holding a dumbbell, but this added weight is completely optional and you may want to start with strictly body weight until you get some stamina built up.

Oh, and don’t laugh about the strange grunts you hear…I swear, I’m not the loud meat-head in the gym who grunts after every single set because he wants the entire gym to focus on how big and bad he is.

This exercise is the exception, however, because I was really trying to focus on being explosive…and I guess I felt as though the grunting helped, haha.

Squat Jumps With Dumbbell:


Sometimes I use just this move and perform intervals (ie 30 secs of jump squats, followed by 30 secs of rest and repeat for 10 minutes) for a carido workout.

You can also add this in to your strength training sessions…just make sure you hold a dumbbell if it becomes too easy.  You should be feeling major lactic acid buildup in your thighs by the end of each set.

Trust me when I say that training like this will not only produce faster weight loss and toning, but you will also start to feel like a total badass when you’re in phenomenal shape…
