Hi

Just read your article and suggestions. What is meant by a fast day? What does that entail?

regards

Hey brad,

I am currently 5'9 about 190-200lb range, this seems like a pretty straight forward meal plan as I am looking for something that I can make a daily routine, as to make my eating more structured. You said that the calories you were at for that day was around 2000. As a person who is looking to get leaner..I probably say I'm around 20-28% bodyfat.... Would this be to many calories for me?

I'm using the bodyweight workout from the book "You are your own gym", and I am 2 weeks in pretty noobie haha, but yea would 2000cals be perfect? Or maybe alittle less?

Brad,

If you hate cottage cheese on its own, try adding cut up tomato, cucumber or red pepper to it. I promise it tastes much better. Red pepper gives it a nice crunch too.

Brad,
I have looked at your cristiano ronaldo workout and i am wondering what sort of weights (in kg) i should be using. I am around 78kg, 5 feet 9 inches tall and i am aged 32.
My body fat is around 15% at the minute but i would like to lower this, so what should my calorie intake for a day be?
Currently i take a slow release protein shake with oats and water for be
reakfast, an omlette with mushrooms, ham, onion and tomato, lunch would usually be 2 chicken breasts, dinner would be fish, mixed veg and cous cous. A protein shake after training and then a snack of say a yoghurt and maybe a few crackers with cottage cheese. A slow release protein shake before bed as well. Sounds like alot when i have it typed out!
           Look forward to your comments.

Hi Brad,
I'm planning on sticking to this diet, but was wondering if it would be worth me using creatine whilst trying to burn fat?
I have managed to build a decent size in my arms and have a broad frame as it is, but am looking to shift the belly and get more ripped for summer, but I don't really want to lose much muscle mass either, but I also don't want to take creatine if it would just counter-act the fat loss process?

Any feedback would be appreciated,

Nice one

Ben, you need adequate protein and a caloric surplus during (at least) the crucial time frame where maximum muscle building and prevention of muscle breakdown will occur. Read this post for a better explanation: http://www.topfatlosstrainer.com/2010/09/02/lean-body-breakfast-build-muscle-and-lose-fat-at-the-same-time/ (also see the first link in that post)...you'll notice that I state it's possible to accomplish BOTH fat loss and muscle building in the same day...and certainly within the same week. During my all out fat loss phases, most of my muscle growth would occur on the cheat day where there's a huge caloric surplus...but it is possible to strategically attack both fat loss and muscle building at once...it's just a slower process. Hope this doesn't sound too confusing...

Brad, I don't quite understand what it takes to build muscle. In another post you mentioned it takes a caloric surplus to build muscle (as well as protein of course), however in this post you said you ate enough lean protein to build muscle, yet you created a calorie deficit which allowed for fat loss. How were you able to build muscle with a caloric deficit? I'm confused.

Yes, it's a crap-ton of protein. You can find lots of different info and arguments for and against consuming higher amounts of protein. I will be doing a blog post on this soon. You'd be fine taking in 1 gram per pound of "lean" body weight, but I wouldn't recommend going much lower than that. Stay tuned for that blog post. Great question, BTW...
