Although I definately wouldn't say i have the expertise Brad has I might be able to help you with your question, at least part of it. Biggest thing about Jasons workout is his circuit training, 6 exercises five times over in 15 minutes does sound like alot but regular circuit training is usually 20 mins intensity of the circuit is completely up to the you, next think about the exercises you are doing and what circuits are for. The exercises can be anywhere from doing push ups to squat jumps to pull ups, the objective is to do these exercises as fast as you can without ever giving up form and thats what makes circuits such good fat burners in the first place.
For your first question an easy example of moderate intesity is your basic lifts, that pretty much any highschool/college coaches use when training someone to build strength you have the bench, squat, deadlift, powerclean using weight that you can do all 5 sets with while having to push yourself hard to finish the last set. I truly hope this helped you out in some way or another! ;)

Hi Brad,

great post, I love watching Jason Statham's movies and he really is an inspiration to all of us who want to stay lean and fit, me thinks =).

I do have a small question which you might be able to answer for me. I'm a little confused about how the second part of his work-out would look like. I found another post which lists these as the possible exercises:
1. Heavy lifting using compound movements like the front squat, deadlift, or power clean. Never more than five reps at a time.
2. Short circuits of various exercises with light weights.
3. Various carrying exercises with kettlebells or sandbags.
4. A progression of about 15 kettlebell exercises.
5. Various throws with medicine balls.
But how would such a mix or circuit look. Any examples maybe?

And as for part 3, how can you do a circuit of six exercises five times over in 15 minutes? I would think you'd need more time, but then again, that's probably because I would be gasping for air much faster than JS would =)...

Anyway, keep it up with the great site!

Hi Sanjai, start with the most recent intense workouts we've listed on the home page and second/third pages of the blog. Once you build endurance and strength, you can transition into more hardcore weight training to build your Statham body...

This was more of a total body workout program to get ripped and shed fat, not so much for adding muscle size. It's sorta like a performance-based, metabolism boosting type of workout session...so no, he didn't do the classic split routine in this instance. That has it's place, but not for max. fat-burning. 48 hrs is a good rule of thumb for recovery, although in some strategic cases we can tweak this and still get results...but that's another post for another day. Thanks for reading =)

Hey Brad,
You've heard this a lot I imagine (with good reason!), great website!
I admire you're willingness to help others with their health goals, good stuff.
I just have a question for you:
Did Jason target the same muscles every workout every day he trained, or did he have certain muscle days? (The classic "Chest day" or "Back day".)
I'm just confused because I've heard muscles need 48 hours to repared (Or so my fellow gym go'ers tell me!)
Also, does this routine put on lean muscle AND Size? I would like to get to Jason's size in Death Race
Thanks a lot!
Mark.

It all depends on your goals and the overall intensity of the workout. Generally, additional cardio isn't needed on the same day...but if you really want to lose fat faster, it wouldn't hurt to add some steady state cardio for additional calorie burning. You wouldn't want to increase cals unless your goal was to build lean muscle or maintain current body weight.
