Kevin - sorry bout the delay in this response - I had meant to whip up a post to answer this question and still will. Wow, 4:30am...that's dedication man. You basically need caffeine and protein. My buddy actually has an awesome drink that has like 20 gms of whey protein, plus a pretty standard energy formula and it's under 100 cals. It's called Whey Up and these have helped get me energized without adding lots of cals when I'm trying to get lean. It's a solid drink, but might get kinda pricey if you wanted to have one daily. I also use some whey protein powder and a pre- and post-workout drink from Prograde. Here's a post I did about that: Prograde Protein. Other than that, you could cycle creatine, glutamine and BCAA's as well, but for what you described, some form of caffeine/taurine/B-vits/etc (energy) plus good 'ole whey protein is really all you need. Hope this helped.

absolutely - I have a shake like this about 1.5 hrs before a workout when I really want to tear it up. would def be good before any sporting even for a steady supply of energy.

I think you could roll with just about any kind of juice - or replace the apple juice with your favorite kind of fat free yogurt. This tastes awesome, as I usually do that with my regular oatmeal.

haha, I should have clarified - ingredients must of course be at least moderately healthy in their natural state...believe me, i've already tried this request and every time it ended up in either a fat-storing, super tasty smoothie...or a very healthy form of liquid cardboard.

Loving this one.
Heres a challenge for you, create a lean shake that is cookies and vanilla icecream flavour, like ben and jerrys cookie dough but good for me
I shall take my hat off to you sir if you can make a healthy shake out of that request
