that's interesting - i've used the towel approach for pull-ups for the same effect...it does do a good job working the forearms. Dude, that first move is so freakin' hard, it takes a lot of heart to do anything after that. Plus, my pants almost ripped when I was doing those one-armed overhead dumbbell squats. That workout beat me up.

Hey brad i watched a tip on you tube that showed a guy using two gym towels folded up and wrapped around the part where you grip the dumbbell in order to increase the difficulty of holding them while you do the farmer walk. He said it made it harder to grip the dumbbells which in turn would increase the development of the forearms. Nice video tho man you about past out there after the first routine haha, that's how i feel after doing some of your easier ones!! Great stuff

Well, just make sure you're starting with some of the 'easier' workouts. This one is pretty advanced and very challenging. It's best to start out with the intermediate level workouts and work your way up, to prevent injury and overtraining.

I guess I meant do you need any prerequisite training to start your workouts? Is it not good to just jump in, or is that okay?

What would you suggest doing before starting some of your workouts? Just bodyweight stuff or hitting the weights?

Hi Alex - If "Starting Strenght" is an actual program, no I've never done it. I do agree that a good foundation of strength is important for function and for advancing into more challenging workouts and exercises. But if you're purely going for a lean, ripped look, I feel we can accomplish an appropriate foundation of strength by using compound movements, heavy weights, etc...and while still dieting and designing our workouts for extreme fat loss. I always preach trying to get stronger, no matter if you're training for fat loss or muscle building...or both. I just don't feel as though you have to do an entire program that simply deals with increasing strength, as I can imagine this would not be a good program for losing fat...

Hope that makes sense.

Hey Brad,

I kinda have an off topic question here. Did you ever do a program like Starting Strength to get a good strength base? Or do you think that a solid strength base doesn't matter if your just trying to achieve the GQ look?
