Christina Hendricks Curvy BodyAlright, I need your opinion on this–is Christina Hendricks bringing the curvy look back? What are your thoughts?

Personally, I’ve always thought that the best look for guys is to be extremely ripped with very low body fat percentage (that should be evident by the many celebrity workout posts I’ve done).

But for women, I’ve always said that “toned and curvy” is the way to go.  In other words, a little body fat in the right places (you might be able to guess where those ‘places’ are…) is actually more attractive than being too lean.

One celebrity female who certainly isn’t lacking in the curves department is none other than Mad Men actress Joan Holloway (aka Mrs. Hendricks)…

Interestingly enough, Christina was chosen for the May 2010 cover of Esquire magazine, as she took the crown for best looking woman.  Her polar opposite, the much leaner Megan Fox, came in third overall.  Hmm…

Just a few years ago it seemed like all the Hollywood chicks were going for the borderline anorexic look.  Now days, the needle on the “ideal female body gauge” is tilting back towards voluptuous.

So I’m curious to get your feedback–both guys and girls…

What’s your take on Cristina Hendricks’s curvy figure? Do you think that as the obesity problem continues to spiral out of control, our outlook on what’s healthy or attractive gets shifted as well?  Do you agree with Esquire’s selection?

    Hey Brad, cool blog going on here. I think it is great that for once they are giving a meatier woman some recognition. I think Christina looks great and the stick figure look is out of style, IMO anyway.

    My vote is for toned and curvy all the way! I think your preference is what “most” people prefer, but I’m sure everyone has their own individual tastes.

    I think she’s got a very unique look to her and I’m sure the huge boobs don’t hurt with the guys LOL! I like a slightly more toned look, but Christina looks way better than a lot of celebs that get too thin and frail. Curves are good as long as the stomach, arms and legs aren’t too soft and flabby ( – :

    Yo Brad, I think curvy is making a comeback and this is at least some evidence of that. Girls who are smaller, but still with curves–now that IS a good look. By the way, this is far and away the best fat loss/lean body website there is. I stop by here every day to see if there is anything I might have missed.

    I don’t agree with the toned statement. Did you know that the way women’s bodies are, and the fact they’re made to carry a child, means they naturally shouldn’t be very toned.
    Christina Hendricks has the perfect body shape..that is in fact my own body shape, and i don’t try to make it more toned, because guys like it the way it is. Those men that prefer small waifs, are frankly ones that i wouldn’t prefer not to associate with. The idea of promoting something that is so clearly unhealthy is ridiculous, that’s what causes eating disorders.

    First of all i’d like to say that Megan Fox is smokin’ hott!! I love her lean sexy body and i don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but i also love a woman with curves although when you have a woman with curves you gotta think about the latter years when she’s older those curves aren’t gonna be so appealing… but just for this blog, i love both curvy and lean women.

      I pretty much agree with your sentiments. I would prefer Megan Fox with a nicer personality, and without the piercings and tattoos though. I don’t think any woman is improved by having needles stuck into her, or men for that matter…but I don’t fancy them:P
      Rachel Weiss is even hotter IMHO.

      Danny: Really? I agree – I’m always thinking about how guys might be later on. I mean, I like a guy with some muscle mass, but what if he lets himself go, say after a couple kids, a desk job, a mortgage, the ball games, beer with his buddies, and stops caring about how he looks and most importantly, whether or not I find him attractive. For that reason, I prefer my men more bony than buff – because you never know if he’s gonna flab out or not through sheer lack of effort and sitting on his duff. That’s a divorce maker right there. Bony and loaded, all the way (hey the cash doesn’t hurt either, get me some new ta-tas years down the road, gotta think ahead, as you said).

      You aren’t buying a car, Danny. It’s not ‘an investment’ – what a repugnant insinuation. It really is a good thing we put up with all the male signs of aging (the later years, dude, with the balding/receding hairline, hair in the ears, and slowing down of sexual response time). Maybe we should start viewing things like you, waiting for a return on investment? For that reason, I will only date dudes with hot younger brothers, in case they let themselves go.

    I think what makes her special is that she really rocks it. She has amazing style and presence. I don’t think of her as a ‘plus size’ actress the way the media has (unfortunately) labeled some other females. I like that she is right up in the ‘competition’ with very svelte girls. I think she’s level-ing the playing field in a way.

    Woman or Girl, which do you prefer? You have to decide.

    I’ve always like a bit of meat on a woman, got to have something to hold on to.

      James, I agree man…don’t get me wrong, I like girls in all shapes and sizes and I think a really toned girl is attractive too, but I LOVE the curves. =) I think Christina Hendricks looks amazing. Thanks for the feedback.

    I think she looks amazing, and she has a figure a lot like my own, so of course I am going to be even more drawn to it, because I can relate. I am also a redhead. But, I also find Megan Fox to beautiful as well, I do not find her body as attractive, but she undoubtedly has one face on her! I think woman of all shapes and sizes can be amazing, and really, I think men do as well. I think men can be just as attracted to a petit size 0, to a full figured 14. I think it is woman who drive what woman feel they should look like, not men. As woman, we are the ones that are hardest on ourselves, not men. I have fluctuated in my weight, everywhere to plus or minus 30lbs, but being big or being small has never changed the fact that I have always gotten stares from men. Side note though, when I was up 30lbs, which I still am, I am only 10lbs over my BMI, so I am not obese by anymeans, which I think at a certain point men do find that unnactractive. Bottom line is, if you are healthy, be it skinny or thick, men will find you attractive, and we as woman just need accept what our body shape is, because you can’t change genetics.

      Hey Gigi, thanks for the awesome feedback. I agree and also think it depends on the person — guy or girl — as everyone will have slightly different taste. A girl of nearly any size (except fat, no offense to anyone) that has confidence is sexy, for sure. I love the hourglass figure the best, but that’s just me =)

    Coming into this debate way too late, but…

    I think the “curvy” look IS coming back, but only because so many women lacking the willpower to be really trim are looking for an excuse to heave a sigh of relief and let their bellies flop out over their jeans. It’s the same syndrome that makes so many women condemn Jennifer Hudson’s weight loss; she looks a million times better (and a lot less like a walking heart attack), but they’re looking at her through thick clouds of “shit, she’s making me look bad” – people don’t like seeing proof that actually they COULD look slim and toned if they just put in the effort.

    Looking at photos of Hendricks, I seriously doubt she’s less than 35% body fat and quite possibly more… and whatever the people who settle for average and try to call it “healthy” would like us to believe, that much body fat is not healthy. The irony is that – looking at her proportions – she would have a truly stunning figure if she lost a couple of stone. What you’ve got to remember as well is that we see her in touched-up photos, good lighting and cunning dresses – in her underwear under normal lighting, chances are good that arse looks like cottage cheese.

    And for anyone who reads this and doesn’t like it… no, DON’T write me off as nasty or anorexic, that’s just an excuse to ignore what I’ve said. I’m 5’6″, I weigh 130lbs with a body fat of 22%, and my measurements are 36-24-34. I’m far from having an eating disorder or being “skinny”, I just don’t accept excuses from myself.

    “toned and curvy” is an even more ridiculous goal than totally lean in my opinion. i am assuming your “toned” just means low body fat so that you can see a level of muscle without adding mass. So therefore the goal would be to lose body fat.
    The curvy part is almost entirely genetic (with possibly the influence of hormones from the birth control pill), and your example is an extreme genetic case where her body accumulates fat almost entirely in her breasts. So what is a flat-chested, flat-assed girl to do? they can’t be curvy without plastic surgery, and if they try to get “toned” (reducing their body fat) they will lose even more fat from what little breasts/ass they have.
    BTW: big breasted women in TV is nothing new!

    This makes me think of Cameron Diaz. Check her out in The Mask… super hot, curvy, healthy, sexy. Look at her in Charlie’s angels…. total tomboy, “over-lean” look. Like, drugs look. She was SO hot!! And somehow she looked at herself and thought, “I’m too fat!” and the world lost a great beauty that day….

    Kelly Brook and Kim Kardashain are curvy women. Christina Hendrics is just plain old fat!
