What’s up Burst Bouters?  Ready for a little torture?  Hope so, ’cause today we’ll be completing a bodyweight cardio workout that’ll really require you to suck it up — both physically and mentally…

Plan for 20 minutes of ‘mild’ hell, as you’ll take one of the very best bodyweight exercises — the burpee, of course — and repeat high intensity bursts, with very limited recovery periods, over and over, for a painful 20 minutes.  Watch the video to familiarize yourself with proper burpee form…

Just set your Gymboss Interval Timer to 40 seconds of work and 20 seconds of rest, for 20 total rounds… and get ready to go hard…

Use whichever form of the burpee is right for your current conditioning level.  Twenty minutes is a long time to do this killer fat burning bodyweight exercise for, so you may not be able to do the push up or the jump, but try for the most advanced version your fitness level will allow.

Focus on using good form and breaking down the exercise into it’s basic parts — the squat, jumping (or stepping) into a plank position, doing a perfect push up, jumping/stepping back into the lower squat position and then lastly, performing a squat jump (assuming you’re doing a jump)…

The thing I really dig about bodyweight cardio workouts like this is that you’ll be getting all the weight loss benefits of a traditional cardio workout, but you’ll also be stimulating nearly every single muscle group in your body, plus strengthening your core and improving balance and flexibility at the same time.

When it’s all said and done, a simple bodyweight routine like this offers many more benefits above and beyond what a typical aerobic workout (like jogging at a steady pace) would have.

Push yourself… it’s the last workout of the week and you’re gonna feel very accomplished after grinding your way through this thing.
